Alright so what's new?  I think I'll write about what I said I would write about in the last real post from two weeks ago, I guess.

Umm in other news, Christmas was fun, I ended up getting a new laptop, which was good because my old one was getting pretty bad.  I also recently got a new phone because I was due for an upgrade, so that was fun! Yay for cheap new phones! :)  Not much else to talk about.  Break is relaxing. :)

Ok so last night I stayed up far too late reading this not very well-written book--aka, I read a 729 page book in less than 24 hours, and I didn't spend the whole day reading, either. So in the midst of this author really reaching for connections and dropping names, I read this quote, which I kind of liked:

"It was like a song, one of those sweet, wrenching songs that makes the hair on your arms stand up.  That makes you want to throw yourself on the floor and just bawl.  Or fall backward and surrender to the music utterly.  One of those songs."  

I'm a dork, I know.  In context, this quote was about how this vampire guy had just turned his best friend into a vampire to cure her cancer, and they all of a sudden they discovered that they were soulmates and absolutely HAD to be together, but I think it makes more sense out of context, at least to me.  I read the line and knew exactly what the author was talking about, but in the musical sense--there are songs that are like that for me, songs that I just hear one bar of, and know exactly what it is and where I remember hearing it. 


Anyway, I have to go to work now, but I'll post later. I haven't written anything substantial in about 2 weeks, so I'll get around to that.

So since Thanksgiving a lot has been going on in the life of me. I found out where I'm going for Student Teaching (Salamanca, 5th grade/East View, Kindergarten), and I am finishing up the semester. I'm ready to go home, except for one little thing that's making me not want to.

Hello from the new director of the Honors Program. I have a copy of your Preliminary Honors Project Proposal that was submitted in the spring, but I don't see you registered for HON-498. Please be aware that you need to add this section to complete the project and satisfy requirements for the University Honors Program. The last day to add classes is Monday, Sept. 7.

If you do enroll and intend to complete the project, please try to attend a meeting tomorrow (Friday) at 3pm in Robinson 127 (Honors Space). I'll go over the procedures and deadlines for the year. I'm also going to split everyone into writing/research groups that will meet on an informal basis to provide regular peer feedback on the different projects.

I hope that you're still going to pursue this project for successful completion of the Honors Program. I think you make a really important point here at the end of your proposal: "I feel that what is going on in the world around us is an extremely important part of a child’s education—it gives them a sense of who they are in the world, not just in the community, in the state, or in the country.  I think it is also important that students learn about cultures other than their own, including the cultures of both minority groups within this country as well as the cultures from which they originated." This is exactly the kind of ambitious vision that I hope to see in all Honors work, and I'm eager to see your project listed in the graduation brochure in the spring.

I downloaded the soundtrack to Thumbelina, and I think watching it is one of the first things I want to do when I get home for the summer.  I loooved this movie when I was little. And I still love it. :D


Anyway, a long entry is due, I guess.

I'm starting to get excited about going to Oxford. I downloaded a desktop countdown for it.  58 days and I will be on my way to England.  I don't think it has quite hit me yet, and I don't think it will until I step foot off the plane at Heathrow.  Oh. my. god. I am going to England. This is something that I have wanted for so long, I think I might just die of happiness when I arrive.  Even thinking about it fills my heart to burst with excitement.  I think this is what Lewis was talking about in Surprised by Joy.  This is the longing I think of when I read that.  A longing for something that you think you've been missing, yet you don't realize it until you actually think about it.  I don't know exactly what I am expecting out of the trip, but I feel like something deep down in my heart and soul is going to be filled. It makes me want to get there, find the closest patch of British soil, and lay there, soaking up the pure fact that it is British land.  I'm a freak, I know.

Ok, enough about that for a bit.
Today was my last day of Field Block 1.  I had a really good experience there this semester.  I really feel that I have grown in my confidence as a teacher, as well as my ability to feel comfortable in new situations.  Now let's hope that transfers to the rest of my life, ha ha.  Anyway, I'm going to miss the 13 students I worked with this semester.  I really grew to know them and I am really going to miss them.  Luckily, I got enough pictures of them and the classroom to make a pretty decent scrapbook page.  These are children I don't want to forget--it sounds weird, but they were my first class.  That's a pretty big deal.  I saw them 2 days a week for at least 1/2 a day for the whole semester.  I really think I'm going to keep in touch with Mrs. Goodling, too.  She is a really nice person, and plus, she listened to me spew my entire story of Oxford and then cared enough to tell me to keep in touch with her, and to let her know how the trip turns out.  What a nice lady. :) 
My students made me cards.  They're so cute.  That's another thing I can put in a scrapbook.  For my last lesson, I taught them about Cinco de Mayo, and made a pinata.  They LOVED the pinata.  Kaitlyn took the broken halves home, telling me she was going to put them up on her wall.  Oh, room 104. I'll miss you.

That one I had the crush on since last Oct (2007)?  I have come to terms with the pure and simple fact that he is really not a nice person, and I really should move on and get interested in other people.  Which I have.  I'm pretty legit-ly crushing on a few, in fact.  It's just...I don't know.  I am too socially awkward to actually act interested when they're around.  I fail at getting a date, lol.

I had a bunch of ideas in my head to write about, but by now I'm really too tired to remember them other than they were about kissing boys I don't know. ha. but I'll write more about that later. :)

I am really not enjoying my Behavioral Management class.   We have part of our big project due tomorrow, and it's only been a week since the last part.  I've been to my classroom once since then, and she expects us to have tried out our BSP hypotheses.  It's also annoying because she really does not explain anything to us, yet expects us to understand what she means when we go to do the assignments.  Whatever.

Anyway, I think it may be Spring fever or something, because I am just not in the mood to do much of anything.  I would be perfectly content with just curling up and going to sleep right now, but I've got to do this stupid BSP, and also some readings for Inklings. I have a headache, and I need to shower. 

Tomorrow looks like it's going to be nice out, at least.  Ugh.

Ok, so I haven't posted much more than fluff in a long while.  It's just that my life doesn't really seem to be all that interesting, or contain much that people would find interesting to read. 

Right now, I'm sitting in front of my computer writing this and eating coffee ice cream from the box.  There is some weird concert on PBS playing in the background, because I didn't change the channel after David Copperfield (tonight's Masterpiece Theater) ended.  I should really be working on my honors project proposal, but I don't really feel like it at the moment.  I'll kick myself into gear in a few, but I wanted to post a little bit first. 

So field block's going pretty well. I like my class, and my clinical faculty is really nice.  She graduated from Bona's a few years ago, so she really knows what I'm supposed to be doing, and what's expected of me.  But enough about that.  I talk about school enough as it is, I don't think I should write about it unless I need to vent or something.

Anyway, I'm pretty sure I'm going to NYC next weekend.  Ruthie, Kristy, Alex, and Chris are going for the BV/to visit family/just to go, and when they suggested that I go with them, I thought about it, and then figured why not? I haven't been to the city in a really long time, and it'll be fun! :D

So I guess I'll have more to post about when I get back from doing that.  I like NYC, I'm not going to lie, I'm pretty excited.
